About the Artist
My name is Mari Ringsaker, I’m a painter based in Oslo and Gothenburg. I create dreamlike landscapes that offer a sense of calm and emotional grounding.
While I currently work full time as an artist, I'm originally trained as a clinical psychologist. I view art and psychology as fundamentally intertwined, and I’m interested in how the art we're surrounded by influences how we feel.
My work explores color, softness, and light to evoke feelings. I want the paintings to feel calm, warm, and comforting, like a place where you can pause for a moment.
I paint intuitively, building textures and layers that give the paintings depth.
My goal is to create art that can give you a place to land and to breathe.
Technique
The techniques I use have been developed over time as I've developed as an artist. Originally when I started painting I was very inspired by the beautiful and colourful painting technique of swedish artist Sabina von Essen. With time I have found my own variation of this technique, as well as as developing my own signature technique with my floral style. All my works are characterized my textured layers and soft landscapes.
Inspiration
I'm self taught and I've made it a point to never take an art class. I find the freedom of being able to explore freely without any rules or guidelines is what gives me the most joy. I also find that it's much easier to get in touch with emotions and inner states this way. What inspires me is the beauty of nature, adventures and experiences, and viewing the works of other artists.
